How to Verify a Genuine Ultherapy PRIME: What to Check Before Your Consultation

You can verify for yourself whether an Ultherapy PRIME is genuine by holding your phone to the NFC chip on the device and scanning the QR code on the tip.
Merz Aesthetics Korea announced that, starting in March 2026, it introduced NFC chip-based authenticity verification for Ultherapy PRIME and Ulthera devices. While you cannot look inside the device, the person receiving treatment can now check both the device unit and the tip, one by one, with their phone. Before booking, it is also worth checking the list of participating clinics in the authenticity verification program on the manufacturer's website.
Why Authenticity Verification Starts with the Tip
- Where the energy is delivered: Focused ultrasound is emitted from the tip, not the device unit. Each tip has a set focal depth, such as 1.5mm, 3.0mm, or 4.5mm, and creates small thermal coagulation points at that depth.
- A consumable with a fixed capacity: The manufacturer designs tips so that used tips cannot be refilled or refurbished, and advises against using tips past their expiration date.
- A unique number for each tip: Each tip carries a unique serial number and QR code, making it possible to trace which medical institution it was supplied to.
The manufacturer advises that using non-genuine or refurbished tips may result in energy being delivered inaccurately into the skin. Ultherapy PRIME is a medical device approved in Korea by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety under the product category 'Focused Ultrasound Stimulation System.'
Four Steps to Verify Authenticity
| Item to check | How to do it | When | What you can confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where you receive treatment | Search by region in the list of participating clinics in the authenticity verification program on the manufacturer's website | Before booking | Whether the clinic participates in authenticity verification |
| Device unit | Hold your phone to the device's NFC chip; no app installation required | Before treatment | Whether the device unit is genuine |
| Tip (transducer) | Scan the tip's QR code following the on-screen guide | Before treatment | Authenticity information for that tip |
| Number of shots | Compare the treatment plan you were given with the actual amount used | Before and after treatment | Whether the planned amount was used |
It is difficult to determine authenticity from the on-screen logo or the device's appearance alone. Checking all four points above together lets you verify the device unit, the tip, and the clinic separately.
Questions to Ask During Your Consultation
- Verifying the device unit and tip: Ask whether the device and tips used today can be verified via the NFC chip and QR code.
- Shot distribution by area: Ask how the quoted number of shots will be divided, and how many shots go to each area.
- Tip depth: Ask which tip depth will be used for each area. Skin thickness varies even within the same face, so different depths are used.
- Reactions after treatment: Ask about possible reactions and symptoms that require you to contact the clinic right away.
Writing down your facial treatment plan as you hear the answers gives you a reference point for monitoring your progress after treatment. You can read more about how shots are distributed in our separate article.

Aftercare
- Day of treatment: You may wash your face and apply makeup right away. For the first three days, use a gentle cleanser and keep the water lukewarm.
- First week: Take a break from saunas, alcohol, peels, and scrub products.
- After that: Keep up with sun protection and moisturizing consistently. Changes appear gradually over 1–2 months.
For a few days the skin may throb, and mild swelling, bruising, or redness may appear; in most cases these subside over time. Rarely, white line-like marks (white stripes) may appear, so if you notice these marks, or if swelling and pain worsen day by day, please contact us right away. Before treatment, please let us know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are taking any medications, have allergies, have inflammation or wounds in the treatment area, or are prone to keloids.
FAQ
Q. Where can I find clinics participating in genuine product verification?
A. You can search by region in the directory of clinics participating in genuine product verification on the Merz Aesthetics Korea website. Select the Gyeonggi region or use the search bar; the manufacturer advises calling the clinic before your visit to confirm whether the treatment is available.
Q. How are the shots distributed across different areas?
A. Shots are distributed by area based on where sagging is present, skin thickness, and the size of the face. If you ask about the per-area allocation before treatment and how the actual amount used can be confirmed afterward, you can compare the plan with the result.
Q. How long does the treatment take?
A. From the personalized consultation, self-cleansing, and numbing cream through the treatment and finishing care, it takes about 1 hour in total. You can return to your daily routine right afterward.
