Shurink swelling: how long does it last, and what should you do if you bruise?

Swelling after Shurink is most noticeable from the day of treatment through the next day or two, and it usually subsides within a few days. Bruising is not a common reaction, but it can occur where the skin is thin or blood vessels show through; if it does, it fades to a yellowish color and clears over 1–2 weeks.
Why does swelling occur after Shurink?
Shurink Universe is a lifting treatment that focuses ultrasound energy at the depth of the fascia and dermis to create small thermal coagulation points. As blood flow and fluid gather around the heated tissue, swelling and warmth develop, and this reaction is part of the tissue's recovery process. Areas with a fat layer, such as under the jaw and the cheeks, and areas where shots were placed densely may feel more swollen, and there are individual differences depending on constitution and condition.
Shurink swelling duration and bruising: a day-by-day guide
- On the day of treatment, your face may feel hot and slightly puffy, and you can wash your face and wear makeup right after treatment.
- For 2–3 days starting the next day, it is common for swelling to be more visible in the morning and to go down in the afternoon.
- By about a week, most swelling has subsided, though a dull ache may remain when you press along the jawline or cheekbones.
- If you have a bruise, cool it for the first two days, then watch as it clears over 1–2 weeks.
To reduce Shurink bruising, it helps to tell us before treatment whether you are taking blood-thinning medications or supplements. Rubbing or massaging your face hard to bring down swelling faster can cause irritation, so manage it by sleeping with your pillow slightly raised and cutting back on salty foods. At our Suwon clinic, we advise washing your face with lukewarm water for 3 days after treatment and avoiding heavy drinking, saunas, hot baths, and strenuous exercise for about 7 days.

FAQ
Q. Can I go to work the day after Shurink?
A. Most people can go to work. The warmth and redness right after treatment usually subside within a few hours, and how much swelling remains the next day varies from person to person, so if you have an important photo shoot or event, schedule your treatment a few days in advance.
Q. If there is no swelling after Shurink, does that mean it did not work?
A. The amount of swelling and the lifting change are not the same thing. Swelling is a temporary reaction of heated tissue, while changes in firmness appear gradually over weeks to months as collagen is rebuilt, so results are not judged by swelling alone.
Q. Why do only some people bruise after Shurink?
A. Bruising occurs when small blood vessels in the path of the ultrasound are affected. Thin skin with visible blood vessels, taking blood-thinning medications or supplements, and drinking alcohol on the day of treatment make bruising more likely, so it is best to let us know in advance.
