Rejuran nodules: how are they distinguished from embossing, and what should you do?

Rejuran nodules are small lumps that can still be felt or seen as firm several weeks after treatment. Embossing, where the injection sites rise in bumps right after treatment, is a normal reaction that mostly subsides within 1 to 3 days, so it is different from nodules. The criteria are whether it shrinks over time and whether it is red and painful.

How are Rejuran nodules different from embossing?

Rejuran delivers PN into the dermis in small, divided amounts, and the injection sites rise slightly while the product stays in the skin for a while. This embossing usually flattens within 1 to 3 days, and bruising and swelling fade within 1 to 2 weeks. If it is shrinking day by day, it is considered to be healing.

A nodule is when firmness the size of a grain of rice or a bean remains in the same spot even after two weeks. Some nodules are painless when pressed and show no color change, while others are red, warm, and painful. The latter require an examination to check for inflammation or infection.

Why do Rejuran nodules form?

If the product goes into too shallow a layer or collects heavily in one spot, absorption is slowed and it can remain like a lump. In areas with thin skin, such as around the eyes, it can be felt more easily even with the same amount. Bacteria entering through the injection site can cause inflammation, or rarely, an immune reaction to the ingredient can create firm tissue.

At our Suwon clinic, Rejuran Healer is performed after numbing cream, with 3 sessions at 3 to 4 week intervals as the baseline. Between sessions, it is standard to check whether areas felt in the previous session remain and to adjust the injection locations and amounts.

What should you do if a Rejuran nodule forms?

Small, painless lumps are often monitored to see whether they are gradually absorbed over several weeks. During this time, do not press hard or rub them with your hands to try to break them up, as this can cause inflammation. With Rejuran, the basic care is not to rub or massage the treated area hard.

If the lump becomes red and swollen with increasing warmth and pain, pus forms, or it gradually gets larger, please contact the clinic. If the area was previously treated with another skin booster or filler, letting us know the timing and product before treatment helps identify the cause of the nodule.

FAQ

Q. Do Rejuran nodules go away on their own?

A. Small lumps that are painless and show no color change are often gradually absorbed over several weeks. However, if they grow larger or become red and painful, it may be inflammation, so do not wait; the cause should be checked by examination. Please also avoid pressing them with your hands.

Q. Can I massage a Rejuran nodule to break it up?

A. With Rejuran, the basic rule is not to rub or massage the treated area hard. Pressing on a lump to break it up adds irritation to the surrounding tissue and can cause inflammation, so if it bothers you, do not touch it yourself and get an examination.

Q. Are nodules more likely after Rejuran around the eyes?

A. The skin around the eyes is thin, so embossing tends to remain visible longer and small lumps are more easily felt. That is why around the eyes we inject in even smaller divided amounts at the right depth, and if a lump remains two weeks after treatment, we check the cause by examination.
