Pico Toning Results: After How Many Sessions Do They Appear, and What Changes?

Pico toning results don't come from color fading all at once; they appear as each session breaks pigment in the skin into small pieces and the body clears those fragments, with the process building up over time. You begin to notice a more even skin tone only after several sessions, and pigment that tends to come back, such as melasma, is monitored over a longer period.
How do pico toning results come about?
Pico toning fires the laser for picoseconds, units of one trillionth of a second, breaking melanin pigment into small particles through instantaneous pressure rather than heat. The fragmented pigment is absorbed and cleared by the skin's immune cells over several days to several weeks, so the tone looks clearer as time passes rather than right after treatment. Because it is a toning method that passes evenly over the whole face at low energy, scabbing is rare and it is easy to continue with sessions.
Why Pico Toning Results Differ by Pigment Type
Blemishes and freckles in the shallow layers may show fading relatively early in the sessions. Melasma tends to darken again in response to UV rays, hormones, and heat, so lifestyle care must continue alongside toning to reduce the color, and deep dermal pigment such as nevus of Ota requires a longer period. Laser toning and dual toning results are assessed on the same principle, and we first identify through examination which types of pigment are mixed together.
At our Suwon clinic, the first session of the 5- and 10-session PicoSure toning courses includes a Mark-Vu precision skin analysis to check the condition of your skin.

Care That Helps Preserve Pico Toning Results
You can wash your face and wear makeup on the day of treatment, but take a break from scrubs and peels for about a week, and temporarily stop wrinkle-care ingredients such as retinol as well as functional brightening cosmetics. Your skin can easily become dry, so apply moisturizer often and be sure to use sunscreen before going out. It's also best to avoid things that make your face heat up, such as heavy drinking, saunas, hot baths, and strenuous exercise, for a few days.
Slight redness and a burning sensation after treatment soon subside, and if small scabs occasionally form, don't pick them off with your fingers. In rare cases, the color may actually darken or fade unevenly in patches, so if you notice any unusual color change, please contact the clinic. If you are pregnant or taking medication that makes you sensitive to light, please let us know before treatment.
FAQ
Q. After how many sessions can I feel the results of pico toning?
A. It depends on your skin condition and the type of pigment, but people tend to notice a change in tone after several sessions have built up rather than after one or two. Continuing sessions at 1- to 2-week intervals and comparing photos taken under the same lighting makes it easier to judge, and melasma is assessed over a longer period.
Q. How long do pico toning results last?
A. As long as the pigment that was broken up and cleared doesn't form again, the lightened state continues, but UV rays, hormones, and friction keep producing new pigment. So how long results last varies greatly with lifestyle habits, and sun protection and spaced-out maintenance care need to continue together.
Q. How do dual toning results differ from pico toning?
A. Dual toning uses two lasers with different properties back to back on the same day. While pico toning breaks pigment into small pieces, the vascular laser used alongside it is used to address redness, and the combination is decided after examining how much pigment and flushing are mixed together.
