Swelling after Juvelook Volume: how many days does it last and how do you tell it apart from lumps?

Swelling after Juvelook Volume: how many days does it last and how do you tell it apart from lumps?

Swelling after Juvelook Volume is a temporary reaction caused by the injected material and the irritation of injection, and it usually subsides within a few days, with bruising and a foreign-body sensation easing within 1 to 2 weeks. Swelling puffs up evenly across the whole area and decreases day by day, whereas lumps feel like small grains or masses under your fingertips and remain even after the swelling has gone down.

Why does swelling occur after Juvelook Volume?

Juvelook Volume is a collagen booster that combines PDLLA and hyaluronic acid in a concentrated formula and is placed deep in the tissue. Right after injection, the area looks puffy in proportion to the amount of liquid injected, and where the needle passed multiple times, a mild inflammatory response develops, causing ongoing swelling and soreness.

This swelling goes down within a few days as the fluid is absorbed, and then over 4 to 6 weeks, volume gradually builds as collagen is produced. That is why, right after the swelling goes down, there is a period when the area temporarily looks similar to how it did before treatment.

At our Suwon clinic, after Juvelook Volume, we advise gently massaging for about 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for at least 5 days to prevent lumps.

Care and precautions to reduce swelling after Juvelook Volume

Wash your face and wear makeup from 2 to 3 hours later, and remove the DuoDERM applied to the treated area after 3 days. For 3 to 7 days, avoid heavy drinking, smoking, saunas, jjimjilbang, hot baths, and strenuous exercise, and for 2 to 3 weeks, avoid sleeping face down or on your side, pressure from hats and glasses, facial meridian massage, and ultrasound or radiofrequency treatments.

If the swelling does not go down and keeps getting bigger, if warmth and pain worsen together, or if the skin turns white or purplish, contact the clinic right away. In rare cases, a blocked blood vessel can pose risks such as skin necrosis or vision problems, so it is important to have it checked quickly.

FAQ

Q. Will it look like volume has decreased once the swelling from Juvelook Volume goes down?

A. The volume right after injection includes the injected liquid and swelling, so it is normal for it to look reduced a few days later. Collagen forms and volume builds gradually over 4 to 6 weeks, so results are assessed later, after going through the sessions.

Q. Won't massaging after Juvelook Volume make the swelling worse?

A. Gentle stroking massage is meant to spread the material evenly and reduce lumps, and as long as you don't press hard, it won't significantly increase swelling. Don't press to the point of pain, and divide it into about 5 minutes, five times a day.

Q. If swelling from Juvelook Volume remains, should I postpone the next session?

A. Juvelook Volume is based on 3 or more sessions at 1-month intervals, so most of the swelling has usually gone down by the time of the next session. If swelling or palpable lumps remain, after an examination we either postpone the date or adjust the injection placement and amount.
