Juvelook nodules: why do they form, and what should you do if you feel one?

A Juvelook nodule is a condition in which a firm granule can be felt or a raised bump can be seen at the injection site. The bumpy texture that appears for a few days right after treatment is a common reaction, whereas a firm lump that remains after several weeks or newly appears later may be a nodule that needs to be checked through an examination. When it appeared, how firm it is, and whether it comes with redness or pain are the criteria that separate the two.
Why do Juvelook nodules form?
Juvelook is a collagen booster injected as a mixture of PDLLA, a biodegradable polymer, and hyaluronic acid. PDLLA particles slowly break down in the body and stimulate collagen production around them, and when this reaction concentrates in one spot, it can be felt as a firm granule.
Known conditions that make nodules more likely include the product being placed in too shallow a layer, too much product concentrated in one spot, and the solution not being mixed evenly. Areas where the skin is thin and moves a lot, such as around the eyes and mouth, are also relatively easy to feel, and depending on constitution, nodules can appear as a delayed reaction months after treatment.
How are bumps different from Juvelook nodules?
Reactions right after treatment and nodules differ in when they appear and how they feel.
- Bumps rise at each injection site right after the injection and usually settle within a day to a few days.
- Swelling and bruising fade within 1–2 weeks, and no firm granules remain when pressed.
- Nodules can still be felt firmly in the same spot after several weeks or stand out when you make facial expressions.
- Inflammatory nodules become red and warm, and they hurt when pressed.
At our Suwon clinic, Juvelook is performed for about 15 to 30 minutes after numbing cream, and we inform patients of possible post-treatment reactions such as temporary bruising, swelling, bumps, and redness.
What to do when you feel a Juvelook nodule
Bumpiness you feel within 2 weeks of treatment usually settles on its own, so watch it without pressing hard or squeezing. For nodules that do not shrink after several weeks, we examine their size and depth and then consider options such as observation or injection treatment. Please tell us the location before your next treatment so that the next session is not placed directly over the area where the nodule formed.
If redness, warmth, and pain get progressively worse or you see pus, it may be an infection or inflammatory reaction, so please contact the clinic right away. If you have an autoimmune disease or have previously developed lumps after injection treatments, please let us know before treatment.

FAQ
Q. Do Juvelook nodules go away on their own?
A. Bumps and small granules right after treatment mostly settle within a few days to 1–2 weeks. If a nodule remains firm and the same size after several weeks, it is better to have its depth and size checked through an examination rather than waiting for it to shrink.
Q. Can I massage a Juvelook nodule to break it up?
A. Whether to massage depends on the treatment area, the product, and the injection depth. Rubbing an already hardened nodule hard at home can increase swelling and bruising, so it is best to do so only within the method and frequency advised by our medical staff.
Q. Can someone who had a nodule get Juvelook again?
A. We decide after first checking whether the nodule has subsided and whether the cause was depth or volume. In the next session, we can avoid the same spot or adjust the injection depth and volume, so please tell us during your consultation where the nodule formed before.
