InMode pain: which areas get hot, and is anesthesia used?

InMode pain is not a needle-prick sensation but a mix of heat that builds up from radiofrequency energy and a momentary zap when high-voltage pulses pass through in FX mode. The treatment is set so that energy stops when the skin temperature, which is measured throughout, exceeds a set level, and it is common to receive it without separate anesthesia. Pain tends to be felt more in areas close to the bone, such as the jawline and cheekbones.

InMode pain: how do FX and Forma feel different?

Forma is a mode that heats the dermis with radiofrequency, so while the handpiece keeps moving, the warmth gradually rises into heat. Once the target temperature is reached, it is maintained for a set time, so the heat continues for a while.

FX works by placing the handpiece on one spot and sending high-voltage pulses, so each press brings a brief zap or a thudding sensation. You may feel it more sharply along the jawline, where the bone is close, than on a double chin with a thicker fat layer.

Ways to reduce InMode pain

  • If the heat becomes hard to bear, tell us right away during the treatment, and we will lower the energy and target temperature.
  • Applying plenty of gel and moving the handpiece evenly can reduce heat building up in one spot.
  • Around your period or when you are tired, the same intensity can feel more painful, so the schedule can be adjusted.

At FACE FILTER Clinic Suwon, InMode is performed within about 30 minutes after a personalized consultation and washing your own face, and you can return to your daily routine right after treatment.

Pain and precautions after treatment

After treatment, there may be warmth, tingling, swelling, redness, a burning sensation, dryness, or itching, but these tend to settle soon. Areas treated with FX may feel sore when pressed for a few days, and if red or purple bruises appear, they fade gradually over several days.

For about 7 days, please avoid heavy drinking, saunas and jjimjilbang (Korean spas), hot baths, and strenuous exercise. If you have a pacemaker or metal implant, or are pregnant, please let us know before treatment, and if blisters or a burning sensation last more than a day, please contact the clinic.

FAQ

Q. Can I apply numbing cream because of InMode pain?

A. InMode does not use needles and the intensity is adjusted while monitoring the heat, so it is usually done without anesthesia. If you are particularly sensitive to pain, let us know in advance during your consultation, and we will decide together how to adjust the energy intensity and pace; during the treatment, we also lower it right away if the heat is strong.

Q. Is the zapping sensation normal during InMode FX?

A. With FX, it is common to feel a brief zap or vibration at the moment the high-voltage pulse is sent. If the same spot keeps burning or the pain is severe even after the pulse ends, tell us right away and we will adjust the intensity.

Q. My jaw has been sore for a few days after InMode. Is that okay?

A. Areas treated with FX receive stimulation in the fat layer, so for a few days they may feel sore when pressed or develop light bruising. The soreness usually eases within a few days, and if the pain gets worse day by day or blisters and warmth appear together, please contact the clinic.
