Ear filler: how long does it last, and what changes the duration?

How long ear filler lasts varies from person to person within a range of 6 to 12 months for hyaluronic acid filler. Ear filler is a treatment in which filler is injected into the upper or back part of the helix so that the ears appear slightly more visible from the front, and the rate of absorption varies depending on the location and amount injected and lifestyle habits that press on the ears.

Why is ear filler considered to last 6 to 12 months?

The hyaluronic acid filler used for ear filler is a substance that is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. Our treatment information considers filler to last 6 to 12 months, and even with the same amount, there are differences depending on the treatment area, product, and individual. The ears do not move with facial expressions, so their shape tends to hold better than in areas with a lot of movement, such as the lips.

At our Suwon clinic, fairy ear filler is offered with two options, domestic filler and imported filler, and the product is decided in consultation based on the shape of the ear cartilage, skin thickness, and desired height.

Factors that change how long ear filler lasts

The habit of pressing on the ears is the biggest variable. Sleeping on one side, over-ear headphones and hook-style earphones, eyeglass temples and mask straps, and helmets repeatedly press on the ears and can cause the filler to spread or the shape to flatten. Sometimes only the ear on the side with these habits looks deflated first.

The amount and location injected also have an effect. Injecting a large amount at once into the thin-skinned helix can make it feel lumpy, so we inject small amounts in divided doses and decide whether to add more after looking at the shape once the swelling subsides.

Care and precautions after ear filler

You can wash your face and wear makeup from 2 to 3 hours after treatment, and for 3 to 7 days avoid heavy drinking, smoking, saunas and jjimjilbang, and strenuous exercise. For 2 to 3 weeks, reduce things that press on the ears, such as sleeping on the treated side, hats, helmets, and glasses, to give the filler time to settle. Take any prescribed medication consistently for 3 days.

Bruising, swelling, and a foreign-body sensation mostly ease within 1 to 2 weeks. If the skin of the ear turns pale white or dark reddish, the pain gradually worsens, or blisters form, a vascular problem needs to be checked, so please contact the clinic immediately. If you have an antibiotic allergy, please let us know before treatment.

FAQ

Q. Can ear filler be dissolved?

A. The hyaluronic acid filler used for ear filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, a breakdown enzyme. If you are not happy with the shape or one side looks spread out, we check the remaining amount by examination and then decide whether to dissolve it or redesign after the swelling subsides.

Q. Can I use earphones while ear filler results last?

A. For 2 to 3 weeks after treatment, it is better to reduce the use of earphones and headphones that press on the ears. Even after that, using products that hook over the ears for long periods can cause the filler to spread, so reducing usage time or choosing products that press less firmly may help.

Q. Can ear filler deflate on only one side?

A. If you sleep on one side or wear an earphone in only one ear for long periods, that side may look lower first. If a left-right difference develops, we check the remaining amount, and whether to add more and how much is decided by examining and comparing both sides after the swelling has fully subsided.
