How does Body ONDA act on the fat layer, and how is it different from liposuction?

Body ONDA generates heat in the subcutaneous fat layer and the dermis with 2.45GHz microwaves without any incision, whereas liposuction removes fat directly through small incisions in the skin.
Even with consistent exercise and diet, stubborn fat can remain in certain areas such as the abdomen or buttocks. Both methods address fat beneath the skin, but they differ in how they reach the fat, in anesthesia, and in what happens after treatment.
How Body ONDA works
This treatment uses DEKA's ONDA device on the body rather than the face. Based on the manufacturer's description and our treatment guide, the mechanism can be broken down as follows.
- Microwave energy: It uses 2.45GHz microwaves. The manufacturer calls this energy Coolwaves and explains that it is designed to act on fat cells beneath the skin.
- Fat cell membrane damage: The heat damages the membranes of fat cells in the subcutaneous fat layer. The damaged fat cells are processed by the body over time.
- Collagen contraction: The heat also reaches collagen fibers in the dermis, causing them to contract. This is followed by a process in which new collagen is produced.
- Surface cooling: The handpiece's cooling system lowers the temperature of the skin surface while energy is delivered, reducing the heat burden.
- Depth-specific handpieces: The manufacturer explains that two handpieces, Deep and Shallow, are used to address localized fat and skin elasticity separately.
Changes appear over several weeks as fat cells are processed and collagen is rebuilt.

Differences from liposuction
| Category | Body ONDA | Liposuction |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Energy is delivered from the surface without cutting the skin | Small incisions are made in the skin and a thin tube (cannula) is inserted |
| How fat is handled | Heat damages fat cells, which are then processed by the body | Fat is detached with a cannula and suctioned out of the body |
| Layer targeted | Subcutaneous fat layer, dermis | Subcutaneous fat layer |
| Anesthesia | Can be performed without anesthesia | Chosen between intravenous sedation and general anesthesia |
| After treatment | Return to daily life immediately after the treatment | Compression garments or elastic bandages are worn to reduce swelling |
Who this treatment suits
- Those with stubborn fat remaining in specific areas such as the abdomen or flanks
- Those who are also bothered by loose skin after losing weight
- Those whose skin on the buttocks or thighs looks uneven
- Those who prefer to avoid methods that require incisions
The manufacturer presents ONDA as a device that addresses localized fat, cellulite, and skin sagging together, citing the abdomen, buttocks, and knees as examples. It is not a treatment for reducing body weight itself, so if overall weight management is the priority, we plan diet and exercise alongside it.
Treatment process
- Consultation and assessment: We assess skin thickness, fat distribution, and the degree of sagging to determine the energy intensity and number of shots.
- Cleansing and preparation: Impurities and oil are wiped from the skin surface, and a dedicated gliding oil is applied.
- Handpiece selection and treatment: The treatment is performed with the handpiece suited to the area of concern.
- Aftercare and soothing: Remaining oil is cleaned off, and the treatment finishes with moisturizing and soothing care.
It can be performed without anesthesia, and you can return to your daily routine right after treatment.
