How long do Sculptra results last, and how are sessions scheduled?

Sculptra results are described as possibly lasting close to two years after completing the sessions, but in practice they vary greatly with the number of sessions, area, age, and lifestyle habits. Sculptra does not fill volume with the injected material itself; instead, collagen produced over several weeks supports the volume, so the duration is also judged based on your appearance after the final session.
Why Sculptra results are described as long-lasting
Sculptra is a treatment in which PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) particles are dissolved in water and spread broadly into the deep layers of the skin. The volume visible right after treatment disappears within a few days as the water injected with it is absorbed, and as the remaining PLLA slowly breaks down, collagen production is induced around it.
The collagen produced this way becomes part of your own tissue, so it diminishes differently from filler, which shrinks as the injected material is absorbed. That is why, when enough sessions are built up, the change is described as tending to last a long time.
Factors that determine how long Sculptra results last
At our Suwon clinic, we view Sculptra as a treatment that induces collagen formation over 4 to 6 weeks after treatment, plan it based on at least 3 sessions at one-month intervals, and decide on retreatment in consultation after observing progress. With only one session, little collagen is produced, so the results may feel short-lived.
The area and lifestyle habits also have an effect. Changes tend to last longer in areas that move less, such as the temples or front of the cheeks, than around the mouth, which moves a lot with facial expressions. Smoking, frequent UV exposure, and rapid weight loss can speed up the loss of collagen.
Care and precautions while Sculptra results last
For at least 5 days after treatment, gently massage about 5 minutes, 5 times a day, to keep the particles from clumping. For 2 to 3 weeks, avoid anything that presses on or heats the treated area, such as sleeping face down, meridian massage, or ultrasound or radiofrequency treatments.
Bruising, swelling, pain, and a foreign-body sensation mostly ease within 1 to 2 weeks. If you feel a firm lump weeks later, or it becomes red and painful, please get examined. Rarely, vascular problems or allergic reactions may occur, so if the skin turns white or dark reddish and the pain increases, please contact the clinic immediately.

FAQ
Q. When do Sculptra results start to show?
A. The volume right after treatment disappears within a few days as the water injected with it is absorbed, and collagen changes appear gradually over 4 to 6 weeks after treatment. Because the change builds up with each session, we compare with pre-treatment photos a few weeks after the final session.
Q. Can I get other treatments while Sculptra results last?
A. For 2 to 3 weeks after treatment, avoid treatments that heat or press on the treated area, such as ultrasound or radiofrequency treatments. After that, they can be done together depending on skin condition, and if you tell us when and where you were treated during consultation, we will coordinate the plan.
Q. Do Sculptra and Juvelook Volume differ in how long the results last?
A. Both treatments work by inducing collagen production, so how long the results last varies with the number of sessions, area, and individual. Their ingredients and particles differ, so the way volume builds up also differs, and we decide which suits you in consultation based on the degree of facial hollowness.
