PicoToning intervals: how many weeks apart and how many sessions?

PicoToning intervals are kept short, from 1–2 weeks to a few weeks, and sessions are continued while watching the pigment fade. Laser toning intervals are set on the same principle, but the interval and number of sessions vary from person to person depending on the depth of the pigment, skin sensitivity, and sun exposure.
Why are PicoToning sessions kept close together?
PicoToning breaks down melanin pigment in the skin into fine particles by delivering a laser with very short pulses at low energy, in multiple passes over a wide area. The broken-down pigment is processed by the skin's immune cells and removed from the body, and since this happens little by little with each session, treatment is designed around frequent, low-energy sessions rather than one strong session. Raising the energy to reduce the number of sessions can irritate the skin and actually darken the pigment, so both interval and intensity are adjusted together.
PicoToning sessions and laser toning intervals: how they vary by pigment
Diffuse melasma with blurry borders is sensitive to irritation, so it is treated over more sessions, while the goal of evening out skin tone can sometimes be met in fewer sessions. After completing the planned number of sessions, maintenance sessions may be scheduled weeks or months apart, depending on when the pigment starts to return. Laser toning intervals follow the same principle, so the type of pigment and how your skin reacts determine the interval more than the device name does.
Between sessions, apply sunscreen thoroughly, and for about a week avoid scrubs, peels, and functional cosmetics such as retinol. At our Suwon clinic, PicoSure toning is generally performed 5–10 or more times at 1–2 week intervals.

Mild redness and a hot sensation after treatment subside quickly. If scabs form, do not pick them off, and if the pigment seems to be getting darker, please contact the clinic before your next session. If you are pregnant or taking medication that makes you sensitive to light, please let us know before treatment.
FAQ
Q. Can I get PicoToning every week?
A. If your skin condition allows, sessions are sometimes done at 1-week intervals. However, if redness and dryness linger or the pigment darkens after a session, the interval is widened to 2 weeks or more, so the next date is set after checking your skin's reaction at each session.
Q. If I take a break from PicoToning, will the pigment come back?
A. Pigment that reacts to UV rays, hormones, and friction, such as melasma, can darken again while you are taking a break from treatment. Even after completing your sessions, keep up sun protection and minimize skin irritation, and if the pigment reappears, maintenance sessions can be considered.
Q. Are laser toning intervals different from PicoToning intervals?
A. Both lighten pigment with low energy over divided sessions, so they are similar in being set at anywhere from 1–2 weeks to a few weeks. Settings differ depending on the device's pulse duration and wavelength, so the actual interval is determined by the type of pigment and how your skin reacts.
