Jaw Botox precautions: how long should I be careful with food and massage?

Jaw Botox precautions fall into two goals: keeping the product in the muscle where it was injected, and preventing infection at the injection sites. The basics are not rubbing hard on the day of treatment, avoiding heat and alcohol for a few days, and taking a break from strong massage and facial meridian massage for about a month. Cutting back on tough and hard foods is also related to how quickly the muscle grows back.
Jaw Botox precautions for the day of treatment and the first week
- Wait 2 to 3 hours after treatment before washing your face or applying makeup.
- For 3 to 7 days, avoid heavy drinking, smoking, saunas and jjimjilbang (Korean spas), hot baths, and strenuous exercise.
- Do not rub or press hard on the treated area.
- Your jaw may feel stiff for a few days, which is temporary.
The first few days are when the product settles into the muscle, so if strong pressure or heat increases blood flow, the product may spread to surrounding areas or bruising and swelling may get worse.
How long should I be careful with food and massage?
While the Botox is working, frequently chewing tough or hard foods keeps the masseter muscles in use, which can shorten how long the Botox lasts, and the weakened muscle can sometimes become sore. It is best to cut back on foods that take long chewing, such as dried squid, nuts, and gum, for a while after treatment.
At FACE FILTER Clinic Suwon, we advise avoiding intense massage and facial meridian massage for one month after jaw Botox. Getting facial meridian massage or strong gua sha massage during this period can spread the product toward the muscles used for smiling and make your expressions look unnatural. Light contact, such as gently washing your face and applying basic skincare products, is fine.
Jaw Botox precautions: conditions to tell us about before treatment
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, the treatment should be postponed. If you have a condition affecting the junction between nerves and muscles, such as myasthenia gravis, or are taking medications that can affect how Botox works, such as aminoglycoside antibiotics, please let us know before treatment.
If the corners of your mouth move unevenly when you chew or smile, or if warmth and pain at the injection sites keep getting worse, please contact the clinic.

FAQ
Q. Will jaw Botox stop working if I do not follow the precautions?
A. Missing the precautions for a day or two does not make the effect disappear. However, strong massage or pressure right after treatment can spread the product to surrounding areas, so if your expressions look unnatural or the two sides look different, it is best to let the clinic know.
Q. Can I chew gum after jaw Botox?
A. Long chewing habits like gum keep the masseter muscles working, which can affect how quickly the muscle grows back. For a while after treatment, cut back on tough or hard foods and gum, and if you have a habit of clenching your teeth, please mention it during your consultation.
Q. When can I start exercising after jaw Botox?
A. Light activity such as walking is usually fine from the day after treatment, and strenuous exercise that makes you sweat a lot can be started after about 3 to 7 days. If you tend to clench your teeth hard while exercising, this keeps the masseter muscles in use, so some care is needed.
