Jaw Botox pain: how much does it hurt during injection, and how sore is it afterward?

Jaw Botox pain is a brief sting as the fine needle goes in and a heavy feeling as the medication enters the muscle, and it is usually done without anesthesia. Afterward, a sore feeling in the jaw when chewing may remain for a few days, but it is usually temporary.
What does it feel like when getting jaw Botox?
Square jaw Botox is injected at several points in each masseter. It stings when the needle passes through the skin, and you briefly feel a sore, pressing sensation as the medication goes into the muscle. People with thick muscles may feel the heaviness more because the injection sites are deeper.
At our Suwon clinic, square jaw Botox is performed after consultation, design, and disinfection, and the treatment takes about 10 minutes. If you are very nervous about needles, cooling the area before injection or using numbing cream can be decided during consultation.
Square jaw Botox pain: how long does soreness last afterward?
After injection, light bruising or swelling may appear at the needle sites, and for a few days your jaw may feel sore when opening your mouth wide or chewing tough food. Around 2 weeks, when muscle movement starts to decrease, you may feel as if your chewing strength has weakened, but everyday meals usually cause little inconvenience.
Tough or hard foods can increase soreness and may also shorten how long the effect lasts, so it is best to avoid them where possible. Also avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area firmly for about a month.
What to check if jaw Botox pain lasts a long time
If soreness is decreasing day by day, you can keep an eye on it, but if pain continues for more than 2 weeks, one cheek swells and feels warm, or the corners of your mouth move awkwardly when smiling, please contact the clinic. If your jaw joint usually clicks or you grind your teeth heavily, letting us know before treatment helps us decide the injection sites and amount.
Botox is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if you have a muscle disorder or are taking medication, please let us know in advance.

FAQ
Q. Is numbing cream applied before jaw Botox?
A. Because the injections are given at several points on each side of the jaw, the procedure is short and the needle is fine, so it is usually done without anesthesia. If you are very nervous about needles or sensitive to pain, cooling the area before injection or using numbing cream can be decided during consultation.
Q. Can I take painkillers for square jaw Botox pain?
A. If soreness when chewing is uncomfortable, you can take an over-the-counter painkiller, but if you take regular medication or have a sensitive stomach, it is best to check first. If pain keeps getting worse or swelling increases even after taking painkillers, please contact the clinic.
Q. Can I chew gum after jaw Botox?
A. Habits of chewing for a long time, like gum, keep the masseter working, which can increase soreness and also affect how long the effect lasts. After treatment, it is best to cut back on gum along with tough or hard foods, and also to look at any habit of clenching your teeth.
